Installing Laminate Countertops On Ikea Cabinets. I just installed the new Ikea Sektion base cabinets. When my stone guy came by today to Rip pieces of plastic laminate (Formica) the width of the cabinet sides and hot melt the strips to the top of the cabinet sides, making them flush with the metal.
We did all the work ourselves and bought IKEA cabinets, and had planned to purchase three solid quartz countertops and get someone else to install them. As you can see in these photos, areas like the pantry and upper cabinets are not finished with all the filler, but since the counter wasn't going to touch those areas we didn't need them. Then instead of installing the toekick, we placed a piece of wood the length of the cabinets and attached our baseboard to it for a seamless look with the wall baseboards.
We just had quartz installed at our new house by different.

The countertops were not DIY (thank goodness) - IKEA sent a crew over to measure and install the countertops. It's not as easy as it may seem, but it's doable. To install a laminate countertop in your kitchen, you should start by dry-fitting it to the cabinets.
