They are glazed & samples we've tried seem to clean ok. Keep in mind that you'll probably need partial tiles for filling around built-in appliances as well as at least a half dozen. However, countertops made from larger tiles are coming into vogue.
But: Most stone tile can be damaged by exposure to water, pigment, or acid, so be prepared for extra.

Pros: Can be customized to suit specific shapes and sizes; heat and stain resistant; damaged. Then add as many tiles as required to cover wider peninsulas or islands and subtract for cooktops, stoves, sinks or other built-ins.
