Farmhouse Formica Countertops. No need to cut up your cabinetry or have new doors made for the sink cabinet. I designed a retrofit farmhouse sink that will easily install in existing cabinetry.
The video to the left demonstrates an under mount installation. Depending on the kind of farmhouse sink you're dealing with, the surrounding countertop will either have to be cut so that there's just a tiny sliver of countertop behind the sink, or so the surface is interrupted completely by the sink (as is the case with many top-mount farmhouse sinks). The sink installs flush to the laminate, not below the surface of the counter to prevent water from soaking into the particleboard.
Unfortunately, undermount kitchen sinks don't mesh with all countertop materials. "In earlier times, when laminate countertops were the most popular, like what you'd see everywhere, the drop-in sink was the only option because when you cut through the laminate for the opening for the sink, it was not a finished edge," Kimmel says.
Drop the sink down then even it all up using bondo.
The sink installs flush to the laminate, not below the surface of the counter to prevent water from soaking into the particleboard. Another thing we love is how a white kitchen can be uniquely styled. No need to cut up your cabinetry or have new doors made for the sink cabinet.
